Seminars: Enrichment Seminars in Daily Meetings

Daily or bi-daily

A seminar day or several days, where we will explore various topics in Zionist and Jewish thought. Together, we will examine and discuss the central and shared values upon which the State of Israel was established. These seminars can be conducted indoors or outdoors, during field trips or in a fixed environment. They are relevant to all Jewish and Zionist holidays and dates, depending on your focus. Seminars can be organized for various settings such as schools, pre-army programs, preparatory programs, training teams, and more.

High Schools: Explanation of the GEFEN System

Daily or bi-daily

Based on the belief that teaching and engaging with Zionism should start in high schools and in response to needs that have emerged in recent years, we at Yahav develop and deliver programs tailored for high school students. These programs align with the content taught in schools and the organization's values, which include Zionism, meaningful service, Jewish identity, Judaism as culture, social responsibility, and more. We build and tailor the curriculum specifically to the needs of each school, based on coordination with school contacts. Our goal is to create a successful and accurate program, and therefore we operate within the GEFEN system of the Ministry of Education.

At Yahav, we believe in texts and cherish reflection. When we founded the organization, we identified a real need to make those old Zionist texts accessible to the younger generation, aiming to connect them and us to the grand ideas underlying the Zionist movement. Therefore, we have collected and curated foundational Zionist texts—an endeavor we continue to undertake each year—that establish our value system and the hope upon which the pursuit of a model society is based. Through these books, we are shaping a contemporary Zionist foundation, delivering our educational materials, and exposing many young people to an incredible world of foundational and highly relevant Zionist thought. It is said that great study leads to action, and for us, these books represent the spiritual foundation for the active work we seek to do and the change we aim to bring about in Israeli society. Our books have also been translated into English and Spanish to create a shared narrative with our brothers and sisters in Jewish communities around the world.

"The Social Question"

In one of the most turbulent periods experienced by the Zionist movement and the State of Israel, we embarked on an exploration, led by Professor Pnina Oz-Salzberger, of the roots of the idea of liberal democracy as expressed in the writings of Ze'ev Jabotinsky, a leader of the Zionist movement and the spiritual leader of the Likud party.

"Judaism as Culture"

The Zionist movement emerged as a secular, youthful, and dynamic counter-movement. It sought to create, renew, and forge anew, often through the erasure and rejection of the Jewish past. From its inception, and even more so during the period of the Yishuv (pre-state Jewish community in Palestine) and the establishment of the state, Zionism operated in the tension between preserving the historical connection with the past and the Jewish generational chain, and creating a new world, a new reality, and a new Judaism here in the Land of Israel.

The People’s Army in a Democratic State

In this chapter, we explore the relationships between the military and society, morality and warfare, and the military and civilian leadership. Dr. Idit Shapira-Gitelman leads us in a discussion on law and justice, philosophy, and civil society. Beginning with David Ben-Gurion's order to establish the IDF in 1948, through the IDF document, and up to the current protests by reservists, we seek to trace the importance of the moral justification of the IDF and its servicemen and servicewomen.
